UPDATE: HALLOWEEN & ULTRAMAN
Halloween And Ultraman – Code Update Guide
For most people the process is straightforward, and it is OK to install the latest version directly.
Quick Update
- Download the update file from the Halloween or Ultraman section on the Game Support page.
- In your Downloads folder you should now have code_H78.pkg or code_UM.pkg.
- Copy this file to an empty USB thumb drive that is larger than 2 GB and no more than 32 GB. Keep only this one file on the drive.
- Confirm the filename on the USB is exactly code_H78.pkg (or code_UM.pkg). If you see a duplicate name like code_H78 (1).pkg, rename it to the exact filename or the update will fail.
- With the game on or off, insert the USB into the black USB extension just inside the coin door on the left side.
- Turn the game on, or if it is already on, wait. The update starts automatically. It can take up to 60 seconds to begin.
- When the update completes the screen will confirm success. Be patient, this can take a few minutes.
- Remove the USB and power the game off, then back on.
- After boot, open the settings menu (buttons inside the coin door) and confirm the version is the latest.
Mac Users
If you are updating a game running a version earlier than 1.10, macOS can place hidden files on the USB that cause the update to fail. Do this:
- Format the USB as MS-DOS (FAT32).
- Copy the
.pkg
file to the USB as-is. Do not unpack it. - Open Terminal and run:
dot_clean "/Volumes/<your-USB-name-here>"
(replace with your actual volume name, for exampleUNTITLED
). - Ignore warnings such as “Failed trying to change dir” or “Bad Pathname.” The command still removes the hidden files that cause the issue.
- Eject the USB and update the game as normal.
Update Failing – Troubleshooting
- Try another USB thumb drive. This is the most common fix. Older or unreliable drives can be slow or corrupt. Stay at 32 GB or smaller. An SD card in a USB adapter can also work.
- Do not remove or wiggle the USB while copying or during the update.
- Verify the copy completed. The file on the USB must match the downloaded file name and file size exactly.
- On Windows, right click the USB drive and choose Eject before removing it.
- Format the drive before copying the file: on Windows use FAT32 with 32 KB allocation size. On Mac use MS-DOS (FAT32).
Catastrophic Failure – Re-Image Your Mini PC
If the game will not load, the screen stays black or shows an error, or you only see a gray BIOS screen, re-imaging the mini PC will restore a working system. After the restore you can apply the latest code update using the Quick Update steps above.
- Identify Your Mini PC And Download The Image
Open the backbox and check the mini PC behind the screen, then download the correct image:
- UP Board – small circuit board style mini computer:
- KAMRUI, OUVISLITE, Etc. – square silver or gray case. A sticker on the back shows ROM size:
- Prepare The USB
- Unzip the file you downloaded.
- Copy the unzipped contents to the USB. Do not copy the original
.zip
file. - You should have eight folders and three files on the USB. On a Mac the
.disk
folder is hidden, which is expected.
- Run The Restore
- With the game off, insert the USB into the mini PC. The coin door USB extension is fine.
- Power on the game. The Clonezilla restore starts automatically and can take a while.
- When you see a menu with Power Off, Reboot, and CMD, turn the game off, remove the USB, then turn the game on again.
- Update To The Latest Code
- The game will load v1.08a and play normally.
- Follow the Quick Update steps to install the latest code.
